Ralphie

Fascinating genetics.

Two different canine DNA tests have concluded the same thing. Ralphie is an intriguing mix of 5 breeds: chihuahua, maltese, shih tzu, mini schnauzer, and pit bull. He most closely resembles a maltese. He doesn’t shed. His hair is a cream color and most people agree that Ralphie is the softest dog they’ve ever touched. His floppy ears and spine are bathed in a golden color that is less prominent when he is freshly groomed.

FAQs

Where is Ralphie from?

The Animal Humane Society in Golden Valley, Minnesota! He arrived in Minnesota in late November 2016 via a shelter system transfer from Dallas, Texas. When he arrived in Minnesota he was very shy and scared. Due to the need for shy dog socialization classes and an unfortunate bout of kennel cough, his stay at AHS was nearly one month.

What does he eat?

Ralphie has a prescription dog food from Royal Canin. It’s a high fiber chicken formulation. Though he has enjoyed a variety of specialty protein-sourced kibble over the years (salmon, duck, and lamb), this gastrointestinal food has been most compatible with his especially sensitive stomach.

What is Ralphie’s personality like?

Ralphie spends most of his time sleeping. He is very protective of his home and mom. Ralphie will unpredictably chase after things, so he is not allowed off-leash, but will always be caught around town with a huge smile on his face.

How old is Ralphie?

Ralphie was adopted on December 20, 2016 and his adoption profile stated that he was 2 years old. In 2020, we’ll recognize his “6th birthday” though don’t have much certainty about his exact age.

Where does Ralphie get groomed?

When we lived in San Francisco, Ralphie saw Roberto at The Dog Barber. If you live in San Francisco, their address is 1903 Market Street. And btw, we call it the “dog spa” and visits are scheduled every 7-9 weeks.

What are Ralphie’s favorites?

Little man enjoys lamb chop dog toys more than anything else. He has a special method of destroying them in which he removes the stuffing, bites the top off each squeaker and then methodically turns the empty body inside out so he can bite the seams. He currently averages approximately 1 hour from start to finish.

Other passions are chasing his olive, pearl, or dumpling toys from Barkbox around. He will do anything for belly rubs.
